Why Build the model?
That is a very good question. I already have enough
to do without taking on the manufacture of a fiddly to mould model boat
that takes far too long to make. Well what happened was....
We were looking at using vacuum forming more in the build of the RaceBoat,
but had nothing to practice on. We also felt that there was more speed
and particularly stability to be had from the RaceBoat by modifying the
way she handled the water flow at high speed.
What we needed was a way of trying to look at both problems. A model!
Right that's the way to go, now what size? Well
one motor we had was 1/10th scale the other was 1/8th scale. The answer
was obvious really, 1/9th scale. So that explains the size.
Now.. How to start? I know - measure the RaceBoat, divide by nine and
use those dimensions to build from. Simple! (Is it hell? Don't try this
at home without a very understanding wife.)
This is part of the raw information I ended up with.

Next step - take one small sheet of m.d.f. and a small saw, some foam,
filler primer, french polish, glue, elbow grease and about 200 hours.
Stick it all in a bucket and shake until most of the materials turn to
dust that gets up your nose and on your nerves, then cover in fibreglass.
Make one backwards, one forwards, and you're done. Yeah simple. I was
right.
